Overview

The Hansa C4 is a compact petrol wood chipper for domestic garden use and intermittent chipping. Its Honda GP160 engine drives a self-feeding cutting system that can process material up to 50mm in diameter, including fibrous garden waste such as prunings, stalks and vines. The single inlet chute feeds material by gravity, while the fixed side-discharge outlet directs the resulting 5–10mm chips away from the machine. Weighing 66kg, the C4 has solid wheels and can be tipped back onto them and moved by one person using the inlet-chute handles. It is designed for suburban gardeners who want to reduce suitable garden waste into manageable chips.

Chipping and garden waste

The C4's self-feeding design draws suitable material through the inlet as it is fed into the machine. Its stated maximum capacity is 50mm, making it suited to garden prunings and other fibrous material within that limit. Hansa also lists stalks, vines, leaves, roots, vegetable matter, paper and cardboard as processable materials.

The rotor discharges chips through a fixed side outlet. The stated chip size is 5–10mm, which can be useful when reducing garden material for handling or reuse.

Moving and operating the C4

At 66kg, the C4 is a substantial machine for its domestic-garden role. It is designed to be tipped back onto its 250mm solid wheels and moved by one person using the inlet-chute handles. The Honda GP160 petrol engine starts by recoil and has a 3.1-litre fuel tank.

Hansa requires ear protection when operating the C4. Its stated operator sound pressure level is 90 dB(A), with a guaranteed sound power level of 105 dB(A).

Checks and routine maintenance

Hansa recommends checking the engine-oil level before each use and changing the oil every 100 operating hours or approximately every 12 months. The specified oil grade is SAE 10W30 or SAE 10W40.

The first maintenance check is due after two working hours and includes fasteners, belt tension and greasing the rotor bearings. Thereafter, Hansa specifies checks every 20 working hours, including knife sharpness, anvil condition and guarding as well as fasteners, belt tension and bearing greasing.

Warranty

Standard Hansa machine warranty is 12 months for domestic use, 12 months for commercial use excluding hire, and 3 months for commercial hire. Eligible domestic and commercial non-hire customers may qualify for extended cover of up to 36 months total or 1,000 hours, whichever occurs first.

Extended cover requires purchase from an authorised Hansa dealer, registration by machine serial number within 10 days of purchase, scheduled servicing by a Hansa dealer in accordance with the relevant manual, and genuine Hansa parts. The manufacturer's applicable terms and exclusions apply; commercial hire is not eligible for extended cover.
