Overview

The Hansa C3e is a 230V electric wood chipper designed for suburban gardens and intermittent use by gardeners. Its 2kW motor and gravity-fed, self-feeding design process suitable garden material into chips measuring approximately 5–10mm, with a maximum chipping capacity of 40mm. It is intended for year-round pruning, trimming and garden clean-up, and can be moved by one person using the inlet-chute handles to tip it onto its wheels.

Chipping and garden clean-up

The C3e is suited to routine pruning, trimming and clean-up in suburban gardens. Its self-feeding action draws suitable material into the cutting mechanism, while its inlet is designed to reduce the need for pre-cutting. Hansa recommends processing freshly cut material in preference to dry material.

The machine can process a range of garden and household materials, including prunings, stalks, vines, leaves, roots, vegetable matter, paper and cardboard, provided they are within its stated capacity. The resulting 5–10mm chips can be reused around the garden; Hansa highlights uses such as composting, weed suppression and moisture retention.

Knife, operation and maintenance

The C3e uses one 110 x 42 x 6mm knife made from A8 modified tool steel. The knife shears material against an adjustable hardened anvil in a scissor-like action. Hansa's UK product information gives the knife an approximate lifespan of 300 hours across 10 sharpenings; actual service life and sharpening intervals depend on use and material.

Hansa recommends checking fasteners after the first two working hours and then every 20 working hours, including checking fasteners and knife sharpness. The machine is designed to be tipped back onto its 200mm solid wheels using the inlet-chute handles for one-person movement.

Electrical supply and operating noise

Hansa recommends using the C3e with an RCD rated at 30mA or less. If using an extension lead, Hansa specifies a minimum 10A rating, with 1.5mm² conductors for leads up to 20m and 2.5mm² conductors for lengths from 20m to 40m.

Published noise figures are 89dB(A) operator sound pressure level and 105dB(A) guaranteed sound power level. Consider these levels when choosing where and when to operate the chipper.

Warranty

Standard Hansa machine warranty is 12 months for domestic use, 12 months for commercial use excluding hire, and three months for commercial hire. Eligible domestic and commercial non-hire customers may qualify for extended cover of up to 36 months total or 1,000 hours, whichever occurs first. Commercial hire is excluded from extended cover.

Extended cover requires purchase from an authorised Hansa dealer, registration by machine serial number within 10 days of purchase and scheduled servicing by a Hansa dealer using genuine Hansa parts. Keep proof of purchase, registration and service records. The warranty is subject to Hansa's applicable terms and exclusions.

A chip catcher bag and chipper cover are optional accessories. The chip catcher bag is purchased separately and may not be supplied with the machine.
